Inaugurated in 1935, the Santa Anita Derby is the signature West Coast stepping stone on the official Road to the Kentucky Derby. Since its inception, the iconic showcase has produced countless racing legends, including Affirmed and Justify, while 10 victorious horses overall have galloped into the winner’s circle at Churchill Downs.

Contested by 3-year-olds at a distance of 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) for a total purse of $750K , the Santa Anita Derby remains the premier annual event at the historic Santa Anita Park.

First run in 1952, the Florida Derby has evolved into a prestigious prep race on the official Road to the Kentucky Derby. Many Thoroughbreds embark upon their Triple Crown aspirations in the Gulfstream Park race, with 20 Florida Derby winners going on to taste the glory of victory at Churchill Downs, Pimlico, or Belmont Park.
